The Streaming Intelligence Platform — Unify Data. Accelerate Insights. Autonomous Actions. StreamNative unifies multi-protocol streaming (Pulsar and Kafka), real-time stream processing, and an event-driven agent runtime so teams can go from data to insights to autonomous actions on one cloud-native foundation—built on Apache Pulsar and powered by the Ursa engine.
Unified
Open & Multi-Protocol
Run streams and queues on StreamNative with zero rewrites; Connect & Replicate keep systems and your lakehouse in sync.
Efficient
Lakehouse-Native Streaming
Ursa writes directly to Iceberg/Delta and cuts streaming TCO by up to 10× while staying Kafka-compatible.
Agentic
Agent-Ready Platform
Deploy intelligent, event-driven agents and LLM workflows that act on live context in milliseconds.
Our Story
StreamNative was founded by the original creators of Apache Pulsar to solve the scalability, cost, and complexity challenges of traditional data streaming platforms like Kafka. We recognized that while real-time data is critical for AI and analytics, existing solutions were expensive, difficult to manage, and lacked native integration with modern data lakehouses.
Our Ursa Engine extends Apache Pulsar with a leaderless architecture, lakehouse-native storage, and seamless compatibility with Kafka, enabling organizations to reduce cloud costs by 10x while maintaining high performance.
2011
LinkedIn releases Apache Kafka, launching the era of large-scale event streaming.
2018
Apache Pulsar graduates at ASF, unifying streaming and messaging for cloud-native use.
2019
StreamNative launches to deliver managed Pulsar and unified streaming for enterprises.
2021
StreamNative received $23.7M Series A to scale product, cloud, and open-source community.
2024
Ursa debuts: first lakehouse-native streaming engine for Kafka on object storage.
2025
Ursa won VLDB Best Industry Paper; lakehouse-native design cuts streaming TCO 10×.

Founders
Original creators of Apache Pulsar
Sijie Guo
Co-founder & CEO
Sijie’s journey with Apache Pulsar began at Yahoo! where he was part of the team working to develop a global messaging platform for the company. He then went to Twitter, where he led the messaging infrastructure group and co-created DistributedLog and Twitter EventBus. In 2017, he co-founded Streamlio, which was acquired by Splunk, and in 2019 he founded StreamNative. He is one of the original creators of Apache Pulsar and Apache BookKeeper, and remains VP of Apache BookKeeper and PMC Member of Apache Pulsar. Sijie lives in the San Francisco Bay Area of California.
Matteo Merli
Co-founder & CTO
Matteo is the CTO at StreamNative, where he brings rich experience in distributed pub-sub messaging platforms. Matteo was one of the co-creators of Apache Pulsar during his time at Yahoo!. Matteo and Sijie worked to create a global, distributed messaging system for Yahoo!, which would later become Apache Pulsar. Matteo then co-founded Streamlio with Guo, and later served as the Senior Principal Software Engineer at Splunk post-acquisition. Matteo is the PMC Chair of Apache Pulsar, where he helps to guide the community and ensure the success of the Pulsar project. He is also a PMC member for Apache BookKeeper. Matteo lives in Menlo Park, California.
Find out why our customers love us
“We trust StreamNative to help us manage the entire lifecycle of data across our enterprise, which supports billions of ecommerce interactions across the globe. There’s really no one ahead of StreamNative when it comes to unified messaging and streaming in the cloud.”
"StreamNative gives us the flexibility to move things where we want. It's not just performance improvements—it's enabling our long-term vision of transforming how we store, access, and deliver threat intelligence."
"We jumped into StreamNative fairly early after finding out about the power of Apache Pulsar, but not initially having the headcount to manage it ourselves. We wanted something that was full service that offered function processing and persistent topics. StreamNative is an excellent fit for all of our real-time processing use cases. It gave us functions that were executed quickly with extremely low latency."
