SAN FRANCISCO, September 14, 2021 -- StreamNative, the unified messaging and streaming platform founded by the original developers of Apache Pulsar, today announced a $23 million Series-A round led by Prosperity7 Ventures, the diversified growth fund of Aramco Ventures, with participation from seed investors. The company provides a platform enabling organizations to manage the entire lifecycle of data in any cloud environment across the enterprise.
"When the original creators of Apache Pulsar join forces under StreamNative, you can safely bet that StreamNative will continue to develop the platform to achieve stronger performance," said Ayar Tayeb, Executive Managing Director of Prosperity7 Ventures.
The investment reflects market movement from legacy messaging technologies to real-time data and streaming on Kubernetes. StreamNative delivers an enterprise-ready solution helping organizations transition to event-driven architectures. The platform supports cloud managed and hosted environments across fintech, banking, and e-commerce sectors. Current customers include Iterable, Narvar, Applied Materials, and Flipkart.
Leadership Background
StreamNative was founded by Sijie Guo and Matteo Merli, who originally developed advanced real-time messaging and streaming technologies at Yahoo! in 2010. Since then, the two have continued to advance real-time streaming and messaging in top technology companies, including at Twitter and Splunk, and both are active members of the Apache Pulsar PMC.
"We originally built Pulsar to solve global messaging challenges at Yahoo!, but it quickly became clear this could define the future of event-driven unified messaging," said Sijie Guo, Co-founder and CEO of StreamNative.
The StreamNative team comprises over half of monthly active Pulsar contributors. The organization hosts global Pulsar Summits attracting 80+ speakers and 1,600+ attendees annually and provides developer training through StreamNative Academy.
Funding Applications
The investment will advance streaming, stream storage, and messaging technologies. Funding enables StreamNative to triple global staff across departments to accelerate product development, ecosystem expansion, and customer acquisition.
Ecosystem initiatives include integrating Data Lakehouse technologies like Databricks' Delta Lake and Apache Hudi for batch access to Pulsar-stored data. The team is developing connectors for Apache Flink and Apache Spark.
"There's really no one ahead of StreamNative when it comes to unified messaging and streaming in the cloud," said Ankush Goyal, VP of Engineering at Narvar.
AWS Marketplace Availability
StreamNative Cloud is immediately available on AWS Marketplace, enabling companies to leverage Pulsar on the largest cloud provider within minutes with unified billing.
